Glendale is Arizona's Fourth Largest city and the financial and business hub of the rapidly growing Northwest-Valley. Glendale's growth and vision for the future are reflected in the progressive business development and public and private partnerships. Glendale's new civic center was completed in November 1999. Luke Air Force Base, the largest jet fighter training base in the world, is located in west Glendale and serves as its largest employer with more than 7,840 employees. Glendale is now the home of the Phoenix Coyotes Hockey Team, which opened their new arena in December 2003. Groundbreaking ceremonies recently took place for the new Arizona Cardinals Stadium which will have Glendale playing host to such large events as the Fiesta Bowl and the Super Bowl. Planned between the two new sports structures is 6 million square feet of retail, hotels, shopping and fine dining.
