California Tech Company Moves HQ To Tempe
Align Technology, the designer and manufacturer of the Invisalign system, iTero dental scanners and other equipment, is moving its headquarters from San Jose, California to Tempe.
The company leased 34,186 square feet of space at the Watermark, the high-profile office building on the northern bank of Tempe Town Lake, according to Phoenix commercial real estate experts.
“Innovation is the heart of Align and core to who we are as an organization,” Joe Hogan, CEO of Align, said in a statement. “As leaders in digital orthodontics and dentistry, we must continue to invest in new products and technology that benefit our doctor customers and their patients.”
Align is bringing 150 jobs to Tempe, but San Jose-based employees have been given the option to continue working in California, which will serve as the company’s hub for innovation, product and marketing and will be home to its digital innovation center.
“This change will afford many new opportunities for Align to expand its industry-leading digital capabilities through innovation in San Jose while achieving greater, long-term operating efficiencies in Arizona,” Hogan said. “Our employees are key to our continued success, and throughout this change we remain committed to supporting all employees, whether they decide to relocate or remain in their current locations.”
The 16-story Watermark building opened in 2019, and the first phase includes 265,000 square feet of premium class A office and 44,000 square feet of high-end restaurant and retail space centered around a splash pad, which will connect to the boardwalk and Tempe Town Lake. Coworking giant WeWork and real estate iBuyer Opendoor have already leased office space at the Watermark.
“Align Technology establishing its global corporate headquarters in greater Phoenix further solidifies the region’s standing as a premier market with the workforce availability, collaborative spirit and modern infrastructure to support innovative, high-growth companies,” Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, said in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome Align to Tempe and the creation of high-quality jobs at a critical time.”
The company is already hiring in Tempe. The job postings are listed here.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Align Technology to Arizona — the latest industry leader to be drawn to our state’s business-friendly, pro-innovation environment,” Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said in a statement. “We’re grateful for this investment in Arizona, which will create more than a hundred new jobs for our residents, and we thank Align for its commitment to our state.”
